Tensions erupted over the weekend as hundreds of Bondo societal members stormed the Bo police station, accusing Ansumana Bockarie, also known as Dr. Kposowai, of engaging in sexual intercourse with the wife of one of his dancers in a Bondo bush located in the Shellmingo section of Bo city. The women of the Bondo society, donning white Ataiya, gathered at the police station to file a formal complaint. The situation prompted immediate action from Madam Francess Mummy Jabati, CEO of the Southern Coordinator Unique Cultural and Women's Advocacy Organization (SUCWA-SL), who visited the scene to gather firsthand information.
Upon arrival, Madam Jabati was met with the sight of destruction at Dr. Kposowai's home, where stones littered the roof, a reflection of the community's outrage. She proceeded to the Bondo bush, the site of the alleged incident. According to her, the bush holds significant cultural value and is traditionally reserved for women's affairs, especially during initiation ceremonies. "The allegations are deeply troubling," said Madam Jabati. "This is a man whom we have respected in our traditional cultural heritage. The community has expressed that the sanctity of their Bondo bush has been compromised."
Madam Jabati noted that the allegations arose amidst internal discord within the cultural group, with some members reportedly seeking to break away and form a new group, allegedly backed by individuals in positions of influence. She urged the community to exercise patience and allow law enforcement to investigate the matter thoroughly. Madam Alice Konneh, head of the Bondo societal members in Bo, condemned the alleged actions as a profound disrespect to their cultural heritage. "The Bondo bush is an abomination to womanhood, and such acts should never occur," she stated. "We will pursue this matter until we reach the truth." Madam Konneh emphasized that the Bondo bush is not a place for men, regardless of the occasion, asserting that men often exploit situations involving women. She expressed her respect for Dr. Kposowai but insisted that respect does not excuse inappropriate behavior.
In a surprising turn, the alleged victim, Madam Satta Samura, vehemently denied the accusations against Dr. Kposowai, calling them unfounded and malicious. "These claims are nothing but lies aimed at tarnishing the good reputation of Dr. Kposowai," she said. "I was in the Bondo bush for cultural training, and Dr. Kposowai merely passed by. My pain afterward was due to my medical condition, not any wrongdoing."
Madam Samura urged the community to refrain from spreading falsehoods about individuals who have built their reputation over the years. As the investigation unfolds, both the cultural community and law enforcement are expected to navigate the complexities surrounding this incident, underscoring the importance of respecting cultural practices and ensuring justice prevails.
