In a significant move to bolster food production and enhance local livelihoods, Foday Kandeh Rogers, the Chairman of the Pujehun District Council who also doubles as the SLPP District Secretary General, has inaugurated an ambitious agricultural project aligned with President Julius Maada Bio’s Feed Salone initiative. This large-scale farming effort aims to cultivate rice, cacao, and a diverse range of local food crops in Lortu Kpaka Village. Chairman Rogers expressed his commitment to the initiative, stating, “This is not just about farming. It is about setting a precedent, empowering our people, and demonstrating that Pujehun District can play a leading role in feeding our nation.”
His vision underscores the importance of agricultural development as a cornerstone for self-reliance and prosperity within the district.
The project is part of a broader strategy to not only improve food security in Sierra Leone but also to inspire local farmers throughout the region. Rogers is actively mobilizing community support, providing essential tools, agricultural inputs, and training sessions aimed at enhancing productivity and scaling operations among local farmers. With a strong emphasis on sustainability and economic empowerment, Chairman Rogers’ initiative reflects a deep-rooted commitment to rural development. As he engages with local farming communities, enthusiasm and participation have surged, signalling a renewed hope for agricultural advancement in the district. President Bio’s Feed Salone program seeks to reduce Sierra Leone’s reliance on imported food by promoting domestic production and improving food systems.
The initiative aims to ensure that every Sierra Leonean has access to nutritious and affordable food, a goal that resonates deeply within the local context.
Chairman Rogers' leadership is poised to set a strong example for other district leaders across the nation. By championing large-scale farming and grassroots support, he is not only contributing to the national food security agenda but also inspiring a collective effort towards a more sustainable agricultural future. As the initiative takes root, the vision of a food-secure Sierra Leone becomes increasingly attainable, driven by committed leaders like Chairman Rogers who are dedicated to transforming the agricultural landscape of the country.
