MoH LAUNCHES SIERRA LEONE HEALTH TRAVEL PORTAL

Freetown, Sierra Leone| Monday 8th March 2026- The Minister of Health, Dr. Austin Demby, on Friday officially launched the first Sierra Leone health travel portal at the Lungi International Airport. Designed to improve border health security, this new digital platform is also expected to improve disease surveillance and help respond to any potential public health outbreak.

This centralized system leverages the use of technology to verify health information and travel documents for passengers travelling to and from Sierra Leone amid rising concerns of the Ebola virus outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Through its seamless screening process, the portal will help strengthen efficiency at the country’s border entry points as well as make travel experience pleasant for passengers by bringing them up-to-speed with the latest health documentation required to visit or leave Sierra Leone. 

Dr. Austin Demby said that the Government of Sierra Leone remains committed to ensuring the health and safety of its people and that this is why visitors and citizens alike are now required to electronically submit travel history and documentation seventy-two hours before leaving or entering the country. He praised the initiative, describing it as an innovative milestone that positions Sierra Leone to effectively suspect and decisively respond to any public health emergency.
