LUNGI POLICE COMMIT TO TACKLE INTAKE OF HARMFUL DRUGS

To combat the alarming increase in the consumption of harmful drugs in the Lungi community especially Kaffum-bullon, Kamasondo, and Lokomasama chiefdoms in Port Loko District, Members of the Sierra Leone police force at Lungi, have taken a proactive stance to address this pressing issue of excessive intake of harmful drugs among youth in the district.
Led by the dedicated and determined Information Officer, Abass Oarsman Kargbo, the Lungi Police Department has implemented a series of measures aimed at curbing the menace and safeguarding the well-being of youth in the community.
Speaking about the proactive measures, Officer Abass Osman Kargbo emphasized the importance of a collaborative approach involving law enforcement agencies, community leaders, and concerned citizens. He highlighted the need for increased awareness campaigns to educate the public about the dangers of drug abuse and addiction, as well as the importance of early intervention and rehabilitation programs.
To enforce their commitment, Abass Osman Kargbo said they had established specialized units dedicated to tackling drug-related offenses. He added that the unit would work diligently to identify and apprehend drug dealers, disrupt the supply chain, and dismantle drug trafficking networks operating within the district. He assured that they would also conduct regular patrols, particularly in areas known for drug-related activities, to deter offenders and ensure the safety of the community.
Constable Kamara Furthered that the police department is planning to collaborate with local schools, community centers, and healthcare organizations to provide comprehensive drug prevention and counseling programs. He assured that the initiatives would focus on educating the youths about the risks associated with drug abuse and promoting healthy alternatives for recreational activities.
He, therefore, called on the citizens of the district to actively participate in the fight against drug abuse. He also encouraged residents to report any suspicious activities or individuals involved in drug-related offenses. He concluded by assuring the public in terms of anonymity for those helping the police to identify any potential health cartel.
