GOV’T REPATRIATES 107 STRANDED MIGRANTS FROM NIGER

The government of Sierra Leone and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Sierra Leone have repatriated 107 stranded migrants from Niger to Sierra Leone.

The voluntary return operation facilitated by IOM Sierra Leone with funding from the European Union and Irish Aids,  underscores the commitment of both the government and international organizations to addressing the challenges faced by migrants.

The 107 Sierra Leonean migrants found themselves stranded in Niger, facing various difficulties in a foreign land. Recognizing the urgency and the need for a coordinated response, the Government of Sierra Leone, in partnership with IOM Sierra Leone, initiated efforts to bring these individuals back to their homeland. The voluntary return operation prioritized the safety and well-being of the migrants, ensuring a dignified and secure journey home.

The collaboration between the government and IOM highlights the importance of international cooperation in managing migration challenges.
