Kissy Dockyard, Freetown, Wednesday 20 May 2026 — David Moinina Sengeh, alongside senior government officials and the Vice President of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), conducted an inspection visit to the 108.4-megawatt (MW) Nant Energy Power Project construction site at Kissy Dockyard in Freetown.
The visit formed part of Government’s ongoing efforts to monitor strategic national infrastructure projects, strengthen collaboration with international development partners, and ensure the timely delivery of transformative energy investments critical to Sierra Leone’s economic growth and industrial development. The delegation was taken on a guided tour of the facility by Karim Nasser, Executive Chairman and Director of Nant Power, who provided updates on the progress, technical scope, and implementation timeline of the landmark energy initiative. Speaking during the visit, Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh described the project as a practical example of effective international partnership and sustainable development.
“This is an example of what partnership looks like. It is a partnership supported by the United States Government and the Government of Sierra Leone through the DFC. It is also in alignment with Government’s broader development framework and demonstrates the kind of development His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio is bringing to Sierra Leone,” the Chief Minister stated. He further noted that Government remains impressed with the pace of work and continues to maintain close coordination with the project developers through regular progress updates.
“We are very impressed with the progress. The Ministry of Energy is well connected with the project developers, who send monthly status updates to us. We review those reports consistently, and this visit allows us to see firsthand what is being communicated and ensure that all stakeholders remain on track,” he added.
The Nant Energy Power Project is expected to play a significant role in advancing the Government of Sierra Leone’s “Big Five Game Changers,” particularly Pillar Four on Technology and Infrastructure. By expanding electricity generation capacity and improving energy reliability, the project is expected to support industrial growth, digital transformation, business expansion, and improved public service delivery across the country.
The initiative is also expected to strengthen Sierra Leone’s energy security, reduce power shortages, and create an enabling environment for investment, innovation, and sustainable economic development. Nant Power is a major energy initiative being developed through a strategic partnership between TCQ Power Ltd and Anergi Group, aimed at delivering reliable and cleaner energy infrastructure in Sierra Leone and across West Africa.
Under the amended Power Purchase Agreement, the Nant Power Project is structured in two phases, with Phase One expected to generate 108.4 MW and Phase Two projected to add an additional 40.1 MW to the national grid. The project achieved financial close in November 2024 with support from key international financial institutions and is backed by a long-term Power Purchase Agreement with the Government of Sierra Leone. Once completed, the facility is expected to become Sierra Leone’s first large-scale LNG/LPG combined-cycle power plant, with commissioning projected for the third quarter of 2027.
