SLIBA CERTIFIES BROADCASTERS IN NORTHERN AND NORTH-WESTERN REGIONS

Makeni, Sierra Leone – The Sierra Leone Association of Broadcasters (SLIBA) on Friday, 6 June 2026, officially certified its members from the Northern and North-Western Regions during a well-attended ceremony held at Else Guest House in Makeni. The certification exercise forms part of the association’s ongoing efforts to strengthen professionalism, promote ethical broadcasting practices, and enhance collaboration among media institutions across the country. Addressing participants at the event, SLIBA President Stanley Bangura Jr. highlighted both the achievements and challenges facing the broadcasting industry in Sierra Leone. He noted that despite financial, operational, and technological constraints confronting many radio stations, the association has continued to advocate for the welfare and professional development of broadcasters nationwide.

Mr. Bangura commended member stations for their commitment to responsible journalism and public service broadcasting. He emphasized the critical role radio continues to play in informing, educating, and empowering communities, particularly in rural areas where access to information remains largely dependent on local radio stations.

The SLIBA President further encouraged radio stations that are not yet members of the association to join, stressing that a united broadcasting community would be better positioned to address common challenges, safeguard media freedoms, and promote high professional standards within the industry.

He also reaffirmed SLIBA’s commitment to supporting broadcasters through capacity-building initiatives, advocacy, and engagement with key stakeholders in the media sector. Participants welcomed the certification exercise, describing it as an important step toward strengthening the association and recognizing the contribution of broadcasters to national development. The event brought together station managers, broadcasters, media practitioners, and other stakeholders from across the Northern and North-Western Regions.
