PARLIAMENTARY DELEGATION COMMENDS SEND SL’S DEVELOPMENTS IN KENEMA

Kenema, Sierra Leone – SEND Sierra Leone recently hosted a distinguished delegation from Ireland’s Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade at its headquarters in Kenema as part of the committee’s monitoring visit to Sierra Leone.

The delegation, accompanied by Ireland’s Ambassador to Sierra Leone, H.E. Patrick McManus, met with SEND staff, development partners, and beneficiaries to gain firsthand insight into the impact of various community-based development initiatives being implemented across the country. During the visit, the delegation observed the outcomes of the longstanding partnership between the people of Ireland, through Irish Aid, and the people of Sierra Leone. Discussions focused on key areas including women’s empowerment, financial inclusion, good governance, accountability, education, and sustainable community development.

A major highlight of the visit was a live discussion on Nyapui Radio, where members of the delegation praised SEND Sierra Leone for its commitment to empowering women, strengthening local communities, and promoting inclusive development. They also recognized Nyapui Radio’s important role in amplifying the voices of women and marginalized groups, encouraging civic engagement, and fostering community dialogue.

The delegation further commended the contributions of Credit Unions and Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs) in improving livelihoods and expanding access to financial services, particularly for women.

They noted that the growing number of women assuming leadership positions within their communities reflects the positive impact of these interventions. Speaking during the visit, members of the delegation acknowledged the progress being made through Irish-supported development programs and reaffirmed the importance of continued collaboration in addressing social and economic challenges. SEND Sierra Leone expressed appreciation to the Government and people of Ireland for their sustained support and partnership. The organization reaffirmed its commitment to working with stakeholders to build resilient, inclusive, and prosperous communities across Sierra Leone.
