HON. NYUMA’S DEVELOPMENTAL INITIATIVES CONNECT KENEMA CITY WITH VILLAGES

In a significant development for the residents of Combema and its surrounding areas, the recent construction of a vital bridge has marked a major step towards enhancing connectivity and access to essential services.

This bridge, measuring 6.0m by 2.5m by 6.0m, along with another span of 8.0m, links Kenema City to Combema, significantly improving access to schools, markets, and the Moa River, a key resource for the community. The Moa River is notably important, supplying approximately 70% of the sand used for construction in Kenema City, thanks to its proximity and the high quality of the sand. Historically, the community of Combema has faced challenges, especially during the rainy season, when flooding has impeded movement, stalled the transportation of goods, and restricted access to vital educational institutions like the KLDEC Primary School and Nyapoi School. The local headmistress has voiced the struggles faced by pupils when navigating these adverse conditions, underlining the urgent need for improved infrastructure.

The project was spearheaded by Hon. Mathew Sahr Nyuma, a seasoned legislator, Majority Leader, and Leader of Government Business in Sierra Leone's sixth parliament. Hon. Nyuma is known for his people-centered approach, constantly seeking out avenues that directly benefit his constituents. His commitment to empowering communities is evident through his advocacy for educational, employment, and sports initiatives, as well as his focus on women's empowerment and youth resilience campaigns.

With the support of the Road Maintenance Fund Administration (RMFA), which provided funding through the Kenema City Council, the project was brought to fruition in record time. Simbaru Pharmaceuticals and Construction Company also deserve commendation for their timely and quality work on the bridge, which is now ready for vehicular use and awaits formal commissioning.

This bridge project aligns with President Bio’s “Big Five” initiatives, particularly those aimed at enhancing infrastructure as a catalyst for economic development. By reducing transportation barriers, the bridge will facilitate trade and access, directly benefiting the residents of Combema and improving their quality of life. The completion of this infrastructure signifies a hopeful step towards more resilient communities, allowing for smoother movement of people and goods, and ultimately contributing to the socio-economic growth of the region.

As we look forward, the bridge stands as a testament to collaborative efforts between government, community leaders, and construction firms, creating lasting impacts that will benefit future generations in Combema and beyond.
